Negligee Lingerie

A negligee is a style of night wear for women. Most often you can find negligee’s in stores like Victoria’s Secret and Fredrick’s of Hollywood. The negligee, when it was first introduced to the public as early as the 1930’s, was supposed to be worn in the bedroom only. A husband would not allow a wife to wear a negligee in any other room but the bedroom. The very first primitive negligee resembled the head to toe night gowns that women used to wear in the late and early 18th and 19th centuries.
In 1941, there was a photograph of Rita Hayworth in what is now called lingerie and after that poster came out, it changed the world of how a negligee was supposed to look. It changed women’s lingerie forever. The negligees of today are looser all around and the material is more of a sheer yet shiny fabric. Some has lace around the top and some had a lace decorated neckline.
Nylon and silk became the most popular styles of material used in the manufacturing of the lingerie. It gave the garment a much more of a sexier look. The negligee was about knee length and from that style of nightgown the baby doll was born. Negligee may be a slightly old fashioned word but the negligee still exists today. You can find them in department stores as well as Victoria’s Secret and online shops as well.
